This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember asking to hear the same story over and over and OVER again when you were a child? Please help these eager readers learn in a literacy enriched environment.
These students are from an urban district, very close to a large city of Ohio.
Most students receive free or reduced price lunch and breakfast. The school itself is limited with technology and resources. Their current listening center consists of a boombox and a few pairs of head phones. We have about two books on cassette tape, that are very outdated. These children would LOVE some new audio books to listen to and enjoy!
My Project
My students need audio books for our listening center. A listening center provides an excellent opportunity for children to hear their favorite stories multiple times, which helps to build their vocabulary and decoding skills. With children so caught up in television and video games, an opportunity for their favorite books to come alive will help to increase their interest in reading.
Literacy is hands down the most important part of the early childhood classroom.
Getting children to enjoy and love reading is the main goal, and what better way than making the books come alive through audio!
