My students at WECA have the opportunity to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree from our local community college. This process takes between 4 -5 years, depending on the students particular needs. Students at our school are typically first generation college and come from a diverse background.
This year our graduating seniors have applied to more colleges and been offered MORE scholarships than ever before!
Students in this years Class of 2019 have applied to colleges as far reaching as New Orleans, Chicago, Boston, and of course all across the state of North Carolina. We are excited to also announce our LARGEST graduating class to date with over half of our graduates completing all of their requirements in only 4 years. Can you imagine completing all of your high school course requirements while concurrently completing 60 plus hours of a college degree program? Our students are doing just that!
My Project
WECA seniors have been working hard this school year on college applications. I challenged each student to apply to at least 5 schools. Including a safety net school and a REACH school. Their acceptances have been pouring in! This year is our LARGEST ever graduating class. These students have applied to the most selective colleges out of any seniors. We are excited to announce that because of this, their hard work in the classroom, hours spent volunteering and dedication, our students have received MORE acceptances and scholarship offers than EVER before in the history of our school.
We are CELEBRATING our Graduates achievements by throwing the 1st College Signing Day!
This event will honor each of these student's and their families hard work. Our students are graduating with a high school diploma and most will graduate with an additional associate degree from our community college. These students have pushed themselves and we couldn't be more proud.
Students at my school are typically first generation college, under-represented minority and have family situations that could be a barrier for a college education. These students are proving with enough perseverance and dedication, all dreams are possible.
