Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a school with an incredibly diverse population. We are over 50% Hispanic, with a large population that identifies as Asian, Turkish, Pakistani, Syrian, Persian, Polish, Egyptian, or another minority ethnicity.
We also have over 20 varsity sports at our school, including track and field, tennis, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, softball, hockey, cheerleading, swimming, football, cross country, and bowling.
I am also a mentor for our first Robotics Team. I am in charge of our business plan and our judged awards along with two other business mentors. Each season, we have to write an extensive business plan and present our findings to the judges. The first Robotics Team is composed of 75 members who are as diverse as our school population, with 40 new members this season.
We have an award-winning school for visual and performing arts [SVPA] here at our school. We train our students in public speaking, dance, acting, singing, and other musical instruments. We build our own sets for our plays and work with professionals in the industry.
My Project
Everyone should be able to utilize a calculator in class. Sometimes a student forgets or they are unable to afford one on their own. In our chemistry classroom, it is important that our students are able to use a calculator each day and we need to have a back-up classroom set.
Students will do problems involving conversions, averaging, data analysis, and budgeting.
We have project-based learning labs where the students need to "purchase" a certain amount of supplies and learn the effect of buying too much of one or the other. Stoichiometry and equilibrium problems are the chemical version of the law of supply and demand.
Thank you for looking at our project. Please consider donating to our wonderful students and helping them achieve greatness. We are so thankful for all of the citizen donors who are so generous. God Bless.
