My students need snare drums and the equipment to march/store them. These are some of the last few items we need to restore our marching percussion equipment after the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey.
I have the most wonderful group of students anyone could ask for. My core classes consist of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders ranging from beginner band to middle school honor band. Unfortunately, many of these students lost all but their lives in the 2017 Harvey Floods that ravaged across Southeast Texas. Many of our students lost everything up to the rafters of their homes and the clothes on their backs.
When devastation struck, these incredible young musicians didn't give up.
I couldn't have been blessed with a better group of students who absolutely love to learn about music. Their love for music and commitment to our organization is unlike anything I've ever seen in a group of young musicians. Even coming back to school without homes, clothes, instruments, they were ready to learn and eager to get back to music.
My Project
We have been slowly recovering from the path of destruction that Hurricane Harvey set before us after returning to school last fall. We have been blessed with some incredible donations and we're very grateful. Now we're in a position where we can focus on getting equipment for our instruments. We're trying to get our last snare drum and the carriers & cases for them. Our middle school band hall was completely destroyed by Harvey and it took tens of thousands of dollars in percussion equipment with it. We don't have the funds within the school to replace our drums and we're quickly approaching football/marching season. Our kids work so hard and have been through so much at such a very young age with these storms. I would love nothing more than to tell them "Don't worry, you'll have drums for the fall". AND, we'll even be opening these up for use at the high school so that more students can benefit from these gracious donations!
