Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher in a high-needs NYC public school. I teach varying levels of students including Special Education and General Education pupils. I need a classroom iPad 3 to service and engage all of my pupils' learning needs.
The children that I encounter on a day-to-day basis are faced with insurmountable obstacles.
Some live in shelters, others have parents who are incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. Often they are stressed and frustrated with their environment. My students come to me when they need an outlet for their frustration.
Often they have trouble expressing themselves which only adds to their aggravation and many struggle to find an appropriate way to deal with their feelings. Since they come from low income homes, technology is not readily available and school is the only place they can explore with technology.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad 3 for many reasons. First, it is small, portable, and Apple products are built very sturdy. Second, I foresee limitless potential in the iPad 3 for educational use. It could be used as an e-book reader for literacy. I have seen countless Apps for education that I could download to improve their reading and language fluency, listen to a wide variety of books, practice phonics skills and handwriting. The educational possibilities are endless! Did I mention it can also be hooked up to an LCD projector? I could use it for PowerPoint and photo-slide presentations as well.
As an educator, this device could be revolutionary and it will be a welcome change to the standard paper/pencil approach that must make way for E-Learning for our students to have a competitive edge.
Our society is rapidly changing, so the way we teach our children must change as well.
My students love technology and are much more engaged in learning when technology is being used. I'm excited about the possibility of them having an iPad 3 to use in our classroom. Please help our dream become a reality! The learning possibilities are endless!
