My students need high-quality magazines that they may use as models for their own writing. WE need Scholastic Storyworks.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every day, my students arrive at school with hope for their futures. Our school is a Title I school, which means we have a high percentage of students living in poverty. While poverty brings many hardships, it doesn't taint our attitudes and outlook at our school. Early each morning, you'll hear four hundred plus voices call out our "Bulldog Beliefs" with a rousing howl at the end! My school is the happiest school I've ever had the fortune to enter.
While many of their parents are working multiple jobs to provide for their families my students frequently care for their younger siblings and cousins.
Despite all the challenges they face, my students are dedicated readers and learners.
My Project
Digging through a file cabinet I found a stack of Scholastic magazines left behind by the previous teacher. Thinking my students may find them interesting, I used them for one of my lessons. I saw my students "sneak" a peek at the other articles, excitedly whispering about the infographic of a slice of pizza, as if they could possibly get in trouble for reading! After seeing their interest, I knew I had to find a way to get more magazines for them.
Storyworks magazines are colorful and full of interesting, relevant articles that would replace our current black and white reading passage printouts.
With every new edition, my students would have a new set of articles and stories to "sneak" a peek at. The expertly written teacher guides will help me to focus more on teaching my students and less on time-consuming lesson planning.
