My students love being able to use the library after school!
We are a large middle/high school with 1350 students in grades 6th-12th. Many have different socio-economic backgrounds. My student population is very diverse, and each student needs to learn in their own way. All students are able to access our library and reading lounge during the day and after school.
My avid readers love to browse in the library, especially our diverse fiction section. They also suggest books to me for purchase to add to our collection.
My Project
Currently, the small flexible seating area in the library lounge is the first place students select to sit and read, do homework, and collaborate with their peers. A sofa, gravity chairs and rocker will create an at home atmosphere.
Students who are comfortable and given choices in their learning space are more likely to be engaged and concentrate on their work.
As a learning environment, the library lounge alternative seating area creates a place that attracts students, makes them want to research, collaborate and interact. The environment is diverse and dynamic. The area needs to expand to accommodate an entire class. Your donation will help us add a sofa futon, gravity chairs and a rocker so everyone has their own space.
