Help me give my students hands-on materials and continued learning opportunities while they are at home due to Covid-19. These materials will assist them in continuing to build their literacy, math, and fine motor skills.
I teach high school students who are categorized as having Moderate to Severe Intellectual Disabilities and autism. My students will be transitioning into adulthood and need additional resources and adapted materials/curriculum to increase and support life skills. With this COVID-19 pandemic, many of them don’t have the resources and tools at home to continue their learning.
Their ability levels vary greatly, therefore educational needs and transition plans are individualized for each student.
As part of our efforts to continue teaching virtually, I have been doing live read aloud sessions, math videos, zoom sessions, and provided sensory activities for my students to do. I would like to continue to give my students the ability to have a hands-on experience with their academics.
My Project
These materials will help my students who need more hands-on learning activities. With the collection of books, they can practice their reading fluency and comprehension. The elapsed time fraction cards, money games, and liquid measurement sets will help students work on their individual educational goals to build independence, life skills, and mathematical skills. The play doh and play foam will provide sensory materials to help teach letter and number identification. Over half of my students have autism and will benefit from the sensory science tubes, social emotional lessons, and learning cards.
