Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our students of tomorrow." -John Dewey. I believe this wholeheartedly. This generation will see things that we have not yet dreamed about, marvelous things that have not yet been thought of; we must prepare them for the future.
My students live in a high poverty, highly mobile population.
Technology is all around us today, they come to school knowing about technology, we need to provide opportunities for them to use this in a classroom setting. They want to learn new things, especially anything regarding technology. These children do not have a computer at home, whatever learning that takes place with technology, takes place within the four walls of the classroom. My students will use the iPad to reinforce spelling, math, and reading skills. It is my goal to create an iPad center where these tools are in the hands of our students. That is why an iPad is so invaluable; they can visit thousands of places with the educational apps. The use of iPad is a way to practice without having to use worksheets and will keep student interest high. This opportunity is especially valuable for students learning English. My students have seen a few iPads throughout the school and have asked me to write this grant.
My Project
I am requesting two iPads both for students to use during center time exploration. I am thrilled with the opportunity and possibilities of this powerful tool; I will find multiple ways during the day to use this with struggling students, ELL students and whole group instruction. I believe the students need to have full access to this technology to benefit from its strengths. Having an iPad will make our learning environment so much richer. My students are eager to receive these tools and are willing to try new things to help them succeed and with an iPad the opportunities are ENDLESS! Donating to this project will not only help this entire class, but all classes to come. We will be grateful for any donations that you can make toward our project. There are twenty-nine eager souls awaiting the opportunity to explore with an iPad.
As an educator, it is my job to open the door for my students.
There are more than 20,000 educational applications waiting for me to discover with my twenty-nine beautiful children. We need to prepare them; we cannot continue to teach as we did yesterday, we need to prepare them for the future. I want to expose them to the endless possibilities that technology has to offer them now and forever. Familiarity brings a world of endless opportunities that are waiting on the other side of the door.
