This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My amazing students are inquisitive and eager to learn writing! I would like to introduce students to the joys of writing through technology.

My scholars have shown so much growth in their writing, and I want to continue to encourage their drive and performance.

My school is a public charter school located in northeast Washington, DC. We operate on extended schedule with students in school from 8:00 to 4:00 for class instruction and in afterschool tutoring from 4:30 to 6:30. I want to make the reading count.

My Project

This is my last year with my students in middle school. When I began at this school, my now eighth graders were my first class as seventh graders. Therefore, I would like to read with them and study the social issues that they may encounter as they embark on high school. The Battle of Jericho, by Sharon Draper, is an excellent book. My students can relate to each character. I want to ensure that my eighth graders are confident in their choices of friends, courses and afterschool activities in order to be successful in high school.

The Battle of Jericho illustrates real-world experiences so that my students can learn how to solve problems if presented with the same experience in high school.

We need sixty copies of this book. I want my eighth graders to end their learning with me on a positive note and head off with enthusiasm on an amazing journey into high school.
