My students need shirts and fabric paint in order to create human body systems unit project shirts!

My students are WONDERFUL. But I guess all teachers say that right? I have the pleasure of teaching 85, 7th graders at an inner-city charter school in Atlanta, GA. My student population is 99% African American and 77% receive free or reduced-price lunch. They are thinkers, explorers, investigators, and above all scientists! They range in age between 11 and 13, but of course, they want to know everything about the world. They attend a school that is preparing them to go to and through college by spending a whopping ten hours at school daily, plus two hours of homework nightly. They are dynamic, challenging, bright, and humorous young people whose hard work has made our school the number one school in our district and Georgia School of Excellence. My students are not only wonderful, they are the next generation of scientists, doctors, and engineers and they deserve everything I can provide for their excellent life science education.
My students will spend 6 weeks studying all about the human body and how it works. At the end of this dynamic unit students will be creating their own human body systems shirts and modeling them on the science catwalk. This is an annual event where students get to not only showcase their knowledge about human body systems but also combine that knowledge with creativity and demonstrate both in a unique fashion. Students will be using the shirts and fabric paint to create cumulative assessment shirts that they can keep with them for many years to come!
Any donations to this project will make a huge difference in helping me engage students!
Students often come to me disengaged and thinking that science is abstract and difficult but by funding this project, you are helping engage the next generation of scientists!
