My Students
We are located in an extremely overcrowded elementary school in New York. We work very hard and appreciate learning through laughter, fun, and play. It is a long school day when all we do is sit in our seats and work.
You often hear an explosion of laughter coming from my classroom.
First grade is an awesome place for any child to be. I am a first grade teacher for a very eager and excitable group of children. I am truly a lucky teacher.
My Project
Whenever possible I strive to connect learning experiences with the "real" world. Children need to leave the school building and really understand how something works in reality. Which is why, I think a trip to Stew Leonards would be awesome. Stew's isn't just a grocery store; it has so much more to offer as an educational tool.
Imagine taking children to a store and teaching simple lessons such as weighing items or that a store is organized into groups of similar things.
A grocery store is filled with fantastic literacy and math learning opportunities. We can count and learn the value of money.
But for this trip I am looking to teach my kids about nutrition and the value of money. The goal is to shop for food that we will use back at school to make snacks and lunches. We will discuss our choices, and base our decisions on nutrition and the value of what our money can buy. In order to make these purchases we would need gift cards. Gift cards will allow us to keep track of our money. Also, we should be able to make two trips to the store, which will definitely further our education.
