Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning as my students walk into the classroom I see their happy faces to be at school. However sometimes some of them haven’t had breakfast, didn’t have enough sleep because their home was cold the night before.
I work at AE a in low income district where some students receive lunch bags at the end of the day so they can have a meal before they go to bed, get receive used coats/clothes to wear during winter, more than one family lives in the same house, and last but not least they come to school eager to learn new thing.
It is exciting to hear at the end of the day that they want spend more time at school, but at the same time it makes me wonder why they want to stay. Is school a better environment for them? Why do they feel so happy to be at school?
My Project
Cold weather is here, sometimes below Zero degrees Fahrenheit and our students are only wearing a sweater without gloves or hats that would help them stay warm.
Most of the time school is a better environment because their homes lack of heating, and don't have the appropriate winter clothing, if my students receive a winter coat, gloves, hats and if possible boots they will at least have something to keep them warm.
By providing with some of these needs, students know that there is someone who cares for them, and will know that during winter break they will be able to have warm clothing.
