We Want to Read! Listening Center Needed to Succeed
My students need a CD player, headphones and junction box so they may enjoy listening to their books during small group Reading sessions in our classroom.
We love to read! That's what I hear my students say on a regular basis. They are motivated, and this equipment will help keep their drive to improve on the right track. Our curriculum calls for listening centers to afford my students the opportunity to listen to multiple readers to improve skills.
Aloha.
We are a Hawaiian-focus Charter School. Welcome to our fifth grade class of 17 students. Our school day includes Hawaiian studies, traditions, language, and dance along with the core curriculum of Elementary subjects. In other words, we are very busy! Our school is growing and our 'ohana (family) of students, teachers, and staff are excited to see this happen. As expected, however, a growing school needs help to give our students the best chance to succeed. We are fortunate to have wonderful weather, and our school overlooks the Pacific Ocean. In fact, some of our classes bring us to the beach to study our waters, plants and animals. We often see humpback whales breaching when we are on the playground during the winter months! Our students enjoy school and love to learn, but honestly, they would rather be surfing, swimming, paddling an outrigger canoe, or playing in the sand. You can imagine...when the school work is done, the beach is close by, and the ocean is calling. Mahalo
My Project
Our Language Arts curriculum includes small group reading activities. All students in our class are expected to use a listening center to read/hear the main selection of the lesson at least once a week. This gives them the opportunity to listen to a reader other than the teacher, and to develop their own reading skills. Students will have the opportunity with a listening center to complete a wide array of projects to include writing and comprehension skills. They will also improve team building skills while completing the curriculum requirements. I would expect to use a listening center in other subject areas as well. I have a small cd library to begin with in Science, Music, and Social Studies content areas that I have not been able to use. My students are already more engaged when working in groups and incorporating technology in the classroom with a listening center will help to keep them motivated, reading, and learning
Our class doesn't have any audio equipment and we are in dire need.
Your donation will help us round out our Language Arts curriculum following established, successful teaching practices. My students are eager readers, and are interested in improving their skills. This equipment will reach farther than Language Arts, however, and afford my students a new and exciting way to increase their learning in many content areas.
Mahalo (thank you) for considering our needs.
