I teach Reading at a High School in Southeast Dallas. What I love about my students are that they are full of hope and joy regardless of their situation which in turn makes them resilient. They know that they have to fight just as much if not even more to be successful and they never waver from that. They step to every challenge I give them to read and they are constantly improving their reading level.
My students have found a new passion for reading and I love it!
They did know how much fun reading could be until they were directed to read something that they wanted to read. The other teachers did not agree, they wanted my students to read what I chose. Now when I introduced those harder texts that do not shy away from them, they take the challenge head on!
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is a place where my students really enjoy to read. Every student that reads this book will enjoy this book even if they hate reading. This particular book was chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. My students will be excited to read this book and without a doubt improve their skills. This new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
After reading the book, they will be able to lead and participate in meaningful discussions about the book.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will motivate my students to grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
