My students need soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, flying discs and an agility ladder to practice their skills and build confidence through movement.
This project will serve TWO schools!! I am the PE teacher at Barr and Frazer. Outside of my class, many of my students live in low-income/poverty situations. Inside my class, we are all eager, energetic learners that just want to move! Many students do not have the ability to be active for 60 minutes per day at home so I want to make sure that we do not waste any time in our gym on waiting for someone else to finish using a ball. Adding to our deteriorating equipment is a must so we can continue learning and building confidence in our bodies and explore the ways that we can move and improve.
My Project
These items will increase the amount of opportunities students have to try the skills that we learn. Having these balls/discs will let all students practice at the same time instead of sharing a ball between multiple students increasing their activity time by 50% or more!! Many students don't get the recommended 60 minutes of activity per day at home so I want to maximize that time as much as I can while they are with me. The speed ladder will help us explore ways to measure and improve our performance so we can always strive to get better!
