Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am just getting to know these students as I am brand new to the school. The students range from kindergarten to seniors in high school and they have already stolen my heart. They are a tight knit community and they have big hearts and lots of character!
I love see them excited to move and play and holy cow, they have so very much energy!
Since this school became a charter, there has not been a P.E. program. Now that I am here, they are so very excited to have an outlet to move and play! They are anxious for team sports, organized and cooperative games and well as competitive activities. I am excited to provide these and play with them!
My Project
Our school hasn't had P.E. for elementary students in 5 years! Now that the program is being revived, I see many children don't know how they like to move and play and are lacking in many gross motor skills. Our sweet little school needs equipment to excite the students about movement and exercise.
I am passionate that we are outside as much as possible, because they find it hard to resist running in the grass and research consistently demonstrates the benefits of outdoor time, especially for kids.
When we are outside, during warm ups and instruction time, we are being pounded by the bright, desert sun. I want to promote health and exercise without sun damage!
The soccer, volleyballs and badminton equipment are necessary to meet the students' sports interest. Again, I want student to be passionate about movement. These materials will help keep them engaged and make P.E. fun!.
