My students need trampolines, a balance board and a balance beam to engage them in our Action Based Learning Lab.

My students are my heart. They are sweet, kind, compassionate. They are curious, wide-eyed, and attentive. They are excited, happy, and love hugs. They come from all different homes. Some have their own beds, others do not. Some eat breakfast every morning, others do not. Some look forward to summer break, yet others do not.
All of them come to school every day and do their personal best.
And because of that, I need to make sure I give them everything they need. They are so special and deserve the best.
As a school, we are committed to meeting the needs of all students and have been researching, attending PDs and learning to think outside the typical "educational box". While doing our research, a common factor kept coming up---"movement enhances learning". We have begun to create an Action Based Learning Lab in our school, that will reach over 300 students K-3.
We know that movement not only enhances the learning process, but it is also a natural state for a lot of our children.
Movement gives the brain the opportunity for implicit learning. Implicit learning is the brain's most preferred way to acquire information--this is done through movement, emotions and life experiences.
In partnership with our school OT, we were able to come up with 12 stations that address the Developmental Foundations of Learning (example: cardio, cross lateralization, balance, fine motor...). By creating an Action Based Learning Lab, we are giving our students an area that allows them to practice academic skills while purposefully moving. The trampolines, balance board, balance beam and shoe tying materials would all be used in one of the 12 stations and support one (or more) of the Developmental Foundations of Learning.
