My Students

My students love to play instruments! I've had several leave class and say "Today was the best day of my life!" When I ask the reason it's usually "Because we got to play instruments today!" These students come from a community with 75% of families at or below poverty level. They especially need the stimulation and creativity that musical instruments provide. Even though they face tough circumstances in the community, the students enjoy learning and have a great sense of humor.

My Project

I have only a few rhythm instruments for my students and want to use them to teach steady beat. The slide whistle and thunder tube will add sound effects to literature and songs. We'll play games with the shakers and make music together. There are enough shakers for the students in the classroom to each have one.

My students love playing instruments but get bored quickly when they have to wait a long time for their turn.

I want to have more instruments so that we can all play together and not just a few students at a time. These instruments will give us more options for everyone playing together.
