As a preschool teacher in a low-income school, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom on a daily basis. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My 14 students are incredibly excited and curious about the world around them.
By providing them with materials that challenge and expand their thinking, we will make them better learners and will push them farther than they ever could imagine!
My Project
In our early childhood classroom we believe that students learn best through purposeful play. Our students are very curious about the people, places, and things around them at home, at school, and in their community. By providing them with a dollhouse and accessories they will be able to act out the different roles they see at home and learn how to treat others through cooperative play with their peers. Using a dollhouse in play also helps them to express things that maybe they can not put into words.
Dramatic play is always one of the busiest part of our classroom.
With the new outfits my students will be able to act out different roles they see in the community. For a student that might be afraid to go to the doctor they will now have the opportunity to learn more about what a doctor does and to see some of the tools that a doctor might use. These outfits will also be great starters for conversations about community helpers. Building vocabulary and understanding is such a huge part of helping my students gain pre-reading skills.
