Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a fun group! We are busy trying out STEM in our Before and After School program. This year we would like to have the opportunity to get hands on building and creating with a Makerspace. My students in Colorado are learning about STEAM and how it applies to the world around us. The students crave ways to learn about how to connect with the world around them. We would use a Makerspace along with STEM challenges to make things like bridges that will support weights. We did some research on our class toad to find out what it likes to eat and how much it will grow.
My Project
We are a small after-school program and have been looking at different STEM activities. We would love to have the materials in this hand2mind Classroom Makerspace STEM Cart to help expand our learning and hands-on skills. We don't have a budget that allows us to purchase this cart, but we are hopeful that donors like you will help us achieve our goal.
Our favorite things to do after school are homework, then getting to learn about the world around us and how we can explore it and make it a better place.
Science was a favorite! We learned that things float and sink, and how shape and density influence what will float. We have learned about famous artists and how art makes life enjoyable and beautiful. We are looking forward to learning about technology and engineering in the next semester. With the use of the Makerspace STEM Cart we will be able to build things and use tools to help. We will use the the cart's materials for building bridges that will support weights for example. We will follow a design process by researching bridges, drawing a plan, using the materials wisely and making improvement along the way. We will test our design with weights to see how strong it is. Then we can write a summary to display along with the project. Having a Makerspace cart will allow us access to materials we do not currently have.
