Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I just began working in a school district that is low - income, high poverty and high crime. The students I work with are young, but have experienced things that I have never had to face. They are so much more than the community that they are growing up in. They make the community they are living in disappear when they are in the classroom and are just kids.
I work with 6 amazing boys with autism!
They are are kind, compassionate, and as our school motto says, they are "responsible, respectful, and ready" for what I have challenged them with. They are also very active and have tons of energy. They love to move around and interact with people and see and experience new things.
Sometimes they tell me that they are hated but I remind them daily that they are very loved by me and in the school community.
My Project
My students need the mimioteach interactive projector to be able to interact and experience the lessons being taught like never before. The mimioteach interactive whiteboard projector will make learning more exciting for my students. They are constantly moving around and being able to bring concepts to life and have them participate in the lessons will be a huge reinforcer for my room.
My students have limited technology in their current classroom.
There are 3 older computers that barely work and are jokingly said to be "held together by duct tape," from the school tech. They have some older green chalkboards, but they are not motivated by them. I have brought in my own iPad, tablet, and old laptop for them to use in the room, which is exciting and they enjoy the experience. Being able to do participate in interactive lessons and to be able to have all six students easy be able to see the board will be an amazing experience for them.
I plan to use the board each morning for the morning meeting. We will be using an interactive calendar where they will be placing the days of the week and dates. They can add friends birthday and it can change each day and the calendar will be consistent reinforcement instead of doing it only once a month, they will do it twenty times a month. They will be learning to count change for the amount of days they will be in school and dragging it into a virtual piggy bank. When they do science they can participate and be a paleontologist and dig for dinosaur bones. We will use it for reinforcement of good behaviors by using class dojo. Their virtual monster will be displayed and the students will be able to monitor how they are doing throughout the day. There are millions of ways the board will be used, and it will be used everyday!
