Ms. Norman from Vicksburg MS is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a class set of Listening First Stereo headphones for our reading and math learning activities as well as interventions that we complete on a daily basis.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My first graders are bright, energetic boys and girls who are eager to learn. Unfortunately, most of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and often cannot afford to purchase the supplies that we need to learn effectively. Approximately 95-98% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
The students that I serve are mostly minority students who really need that all the extra practice that they can get.
A majority of that practice comes in the form of computer programs that combine gaming with learning for a fun-filled educational experience.
In order to do that effectively, they each need a working pair of headphones to go with their computers. By having a pair to go with each computer, the student can work without distraction which will ensure a greater chance of academic success.
My students need headphones so they can hear the directions and tutorials on their chrome books. Many of the lessons that we go over are reinforced through apps and websites such as I-ready and Moby-Max, and it is imperative that the students are engaged. Using headphones gives the students the opportunity to attend to their work without being distracted by noises from their classmates' computers. It is never easy to concentrate when there are many people working on different lessons all in one room. Having headphones gives each child a chance to hear vital information over and over again if necessary.
