Our school is very unique in its design. Students are challenged by our reading program that allows the students to learn at their level and to be pushed to go further and further in their abilities. Our school has a one acre garden that the students are able to plant, care for, and eat the vegetables that they grow themselves!
We have the coolest school in Northwest Ohio!
I have my students for two years. I start with them in third grade and take them all the way through fourth grade. Some students I teach again for reading for fifth and sixth grade. I really get to know the student when doing this. Science is a favorite of all my students. I am a firm believer in bringing science alive in the classroom. I do everything I can to develop the science skills of my students through hands on activities in the garden to STEM activities in the classroom.
My Project
The students in our school will be starting seeds indoors. Luffa plants are a challenging plant to grow but we would like to grow them to have enough luffa sponges to give to our moms next Mother's Day. The students are learning how to grow seeds indoors to transplant outdoors in our 2 acre garden next to our school.
The students are learning to plan, plant and care for seeds as they develop into plants that can be transplanted into our garden.
The students love our garden and love being able to get a head start indoors instead of waiting to work with the plants when the weather improves.
The students need a heating pad, peat pots and sprayers to be able to do this indoors. I purchased seeds on my own and we have grow lights. The students are excited about doing this and are ready to go!
