Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Energetic and full of energy, my students are excited to be in the classroom! They wiggle, tap pencils, tip chairs, sit on their knees and stand, all while doing their best to stay on task.

We do our best learning when we move!

It's not uncommon to look up and find a child wiggling. Often students find a reason to get up and move, a tissue, a dropped eraser, anything is an excuse to get moving. We often need brain breaks so we can dance, stretch, exercise and WIGGLE!

My Project

Increasing the variety of seating options available will allow my students to safely choose how to position their bodies as they work. My project photo says it all, these kiddos need to move, they prefer not to be seated in standard school chairs all day. It can be challenging to focus on producing quality work when your body is ready to move and stretch.

Children have so much energy!

A six and a half hour school day means a lot of time spent sitting. With only 20 minutes of recess and living in the midwest, outdoor play isn't always guaranteed. Chair bands for fidgeting and floor seating to help be as comfortable as possible while we work, may be just what we need to work off some energy and reduce our anxiety levels.

These materials will help my students be able to move around the classroom and in their seats in safe ways.
