Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are awesome! Although 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch, and most come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken, they don't realize that, according to our society, they are disadvantaged. I don't see them as disadvantaged either. To me, they are bright, inquisitive five-year olds ready to take on the world. The world can, and should be, their oyster!
They come to school eager and ready to learn, absorbing knowledge faster than a sponge absorbs water.
They never ask "Why?", they only ask "Why not? They see no barriers in their future and that is exactly the way it should be!
My district struggles to provide us with basic classroom supplies. There is no money in the budget for the extras, therefore those extras (from Legos to listening centers to lollipops for special occasions) come out of my pocket, which is nowhere near as deep as it needs to be! Learning should be fun and somehow, with your help, we will continue to make that happen. Thank you for believing.
My Project
My district is an extremely low-income, urban district. They struggle to provide basic educational supplies for my students. We have a classroom library but my students can't take the books home. The city public library is awesome but it is in a tough neighborhood. My littles can't walk there by themselves and their older siblings/parents are too busy working.
Enter Scholastic Classroom Magazines-"Let's Find Out" features timely, grade-level appropriate articles that are fun for my kids to read.
Better yet? They get to take the magazines home with them at the end of the day and share them with their families!
