My Students

I am a Special Education Teacher at a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I teach 4th grade in an inclusion setting with a co-teacher. In our grade level, our students rotate for math, ELA, and sciences; therefore, we will see each and every 4th-grade student in our school (nearly 170 students).

It is important to us that each and every student comes to school excited to learn every day.

As an inclusion classroom, we understand that the world can be a challenging place. We want our classroom to feel like a safe place where students can learn and explore together.

My Project

Our students have been very busy getting ready for the State Testing. We would like to give our grade 4 students the opportunity to make a ceramic piece for their families. We will use the rollers to roll out over 150 clay slabs. We plan to use these rollers for years to come.

By using the clay, students will cut out a Hawaiian fish, Menpachi.

Then the students will texture the fish using spoons and tooth picks. The students will dry the clay in luau trays to form a spoon rest for their families. Thank you for donating to our project.
