My students need over 20 books, including Miss Rumphius, Library Lion, I Need My Monster, and Old Elm Speaks: Tree Poems, to use the Rooted in Reading curriculum as it is supposed to be used. Students will work in literacy circles and clubs to discuss these great books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We started a new reading curriculum this year and my 2nd graders can't get enough of reading. They beg to read and I love it! We started a read aloud program called Rooted in Reading. There are 4 read aloud books per month and I would love to provide them for my students.
I have 25 students that come from very diverse backgrounds.
Many of them are language learners. Also, many of them are considered high poverty students. We have a great time learning together! I can't wait to see how these books help my students grow even more.
My Project
My students need over 20 books, including Miss Rumphius, Library Lion, I Need My Monster, and Old Elm Speaks: Tree Poems, to use the Rooted in Reading curriculum as it is supposed to be used. Students will work in literacy circles and clubs to discuss these great books. Many of my students don't have an easy life. I want to show them that reading is a fun way to escape and have life experiences that they might not get otherwise. I can do this by giving them access to great titles like these!
We will also be using these books in our writing.
We will be using them as mentor texts and looking at the art in the illustrations. The cross curricular links are numerous. The first step is getting my students access.
