We Want to be Computer Nerds!

My students need headphones so we can hear the amazing things we're doing on our computers!

My Students

My students are growing up in an online world - but the virtual world is falling on deaf ears. With only a few sets of headphones in the class, we can't hear what's out there!

Our class motto is "It's okay to not know, but it's not okay to not try." I tell them daily that there are only two things I require from them - respect and effort.

My students are primarily from low income families. They come from broken homes, foster homes, adoptive homes, and traditional homes. Some have moved from school to school, some have been here since K4. I have students who read on a first grade level, and students who read on a fifth grade level.

My Project

We have discovered an amazing online resource called Raz Kids! This amazing website allows my students to access lots of books on their level! Raz Kids allows my students to read a book silently, have it read to them, or read it aloud and have it recorded. I can monitor their progress as well online. There are so many other amazing websites - for creating (such as Powtoon), reading (Raz Kids), math (First in Math), and thousands of others at our fingertips. Growing up in a world that is becoming more and more online, my students need to experience that world as soon as possible!

So many schools are becoming paperless - work is completed on iPads or Chromebooks, and being computer savvy is a necessity.

Many of my students do not have internet access at home. School offers them a way into the virtual world, but seeing it is only half the experience. Headphones will maximize how my kids can take advantage of all that the internet has to offer.
