Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a neighborhood that's predominately Hispanic, and 89% of the students who attend the school are from low-income families. While parents try their best to be involved in their student's learning, it can be hard and most of the time, students do not get the help they need at home. This is where I step in and try my best to provide everything I can in my classroom for my students.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but the one thing in common they each have is their love for learning!
It has been fascinating to see how much students get comfortable with their Spanish and to hear non-native speaking students engaged in a Spanish conversation. It is truly beautiful to hear!
My Project
Over the years, I have accumulated several books from bookstores and donations. I love how much my class enjoys reading, but that also means our books have built up extreme wear and tear.
I want to give my students more books so they can dive into a new world between each page.
The books from this project will help meet the needs of a variety of readers in my classroom since the books range from Kinder to 2nd grade reading levels. I will also be able to shuffle through my current classroom library and replace some worn out books. We are in a dual language building and having these books will also be able to balance out languages.
