"We want Mo, we want Mo"; that is practically what my students chant when we read the two Mo Willems books we have in our classroom.
My classroom is a moderate/severe special education class at a public elementary school.
I have seven wonderful 4th-6th graders with autism in my classroom this year. Visual structure and organization are very important in my classroom, and all students use a visual schedule daily. We work on academics, functional skills, social skills, appropriate behavior, and many other skills on a daily basis. All the students in my class have different goals each school year, and they work very hard to meet those goals.
My Project
My students love the interactive style of Mo Willems books. His "Pigeon" series gets my students really listening and comprehending, which are such important skills. We will read books as a class and students can read them independently. Having a few classroom sets of Mo Willems books means that students can follow along while we read, which will help students meet individual educational goals.
Having several Mo Willems books, both individual books and classroom sets, will be so important for reading comprehension in this classroom!
Students engage with these books and they are excited to read them. Mo Willems style makes my students excited to read!
