Our school is a charter school in Utah for students with autism as well as students who would also benefit from our unique learning environment; Over a third of our students come from low-income households. Children on the autism spectrum process information differently than children without Autism Spectrum Disorder, which means that a child with autism learns differently. These learning differences can, at times, create educational challenges that may seem impossible to overcome.
These students do have talents and abilities that can be accessed when learning is structured in a way that is right for them.
My students work hard and they are excited and eager to learn.
My Project
I am requesting sports equipment and PE activities. During the pandemic, my students have began to experience increased anxiety. One great way to help alleviate those feelings is for them to get outside and play with their peers. With our student population, structured play tends to work better. Therefore, outdoor equipment that can be used by multiple peers at once is ideal.
Being able to provide these structured outdoor games, will encourage students to participate and interact with their peers, while helping to decrease their built up stress and anxiety that the unpredictable pandemic has brought upon them.
