My Students
My school is a vibrant community made up of students with diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. They may speak different languages and have different beliefs, but our school focuses on helping them come together while embracing their differences.
Our students thrive when they work together to express their creativity and critical thinking, helping them prepare for success in the world beyond high school.
Teachers at my school work hard to provide students the support they need to master rigorous content.
My Project
High school is often a time of required reading that makes students reluctant to pick up their books. When students hear about books that make them excited to read, I do everything I can to get those books in their hands! All the books on this list are ones that students have requested independently or as a result of book talks my partner and I have given in the classroom.
Students who read independently increase their critical thinking skills and creativity, and they become better readers and writers, which helps them become stronger learners.
My students have asked for all sorts of books, mostly those about kids like them and those written in their native language. By giving students books they've requested, we can help them find the enthusiasm for reading that they'll need to be successful. The best way to grow as a reader is to read more, and these books will encourage them to do just that.
