My students need books at the appropriate levels to use, read, and learn to read in the classroom! As a new teacher, having enough books is always a struggle in our class.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are diverse in ethnicity, economics, and academics. We are a Title I, dual-language school in a busy Seattle neighborhood. My students speak a variety of languages including Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Somali among others.
However, one common denominator is that they all work hard and want more.
They want more knowledge, they want more time and attention, they want to learn! In order to do that, they need the materials that can help them be successful and WANT to continue to be lifelong learners.
My Project
The leveled Scholastic books will help my students build their knowledge and confidence in reading! We use guided reading levels in our school and our classroom is building a library for students to use in class, in their book bags, to choose "just right books" and build their stamina and reading levels. However, as a new teacher, having enough books is always a struggle and having any books at these lower levels is far more of a struggle at this time as we have next to none. I have been borrowing books from the library to maintain some amount of books in these bins but we are hoping to get some of "our own" for the classroom.
By providing books for our students, you are providing an anchor for their futures.
The Scholastic readers in A, B, C, D, and E-F sets will be a great foundation to build this classroom library and will be used daily. These books will reach the hands of of 40 students within just one school year, only to be multiplied in years to come!
