Many students in my class are passionate about music. They take my Music-Sound Production class to learn the skills of songwriting, recording and mixing. The student population is very diverse with students enjoying a variety of genres from Rock to Rap to Alternative and Hip Hop.
Students learn songwriting skills, then record and mix their songs into a final recording.
Throughout the year they create several songs and end up producing a full album with a group of peers.
Student enroll in the class for a variety of reasons. Some are performers, some instrumentalists, some enjoy the technical aspect of recording and some producing and managing. During the year students are given a chance to showcase their skills during 4 public concerts that they produce and perform.
My Project
Students in my Music-Sound Production class will be given a chance to audition to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH. A grant from DonorsChoose.org would provide overnight hotel accommodations.
I have some students in class who excel at music performance.
These talented students sing, play guitar, drums and piano and often write their own songs which they produce in class. I would love to give these students an opportunity to showcase their talent in this very unique way. These are young people who are fully invested in music. They are very excited at the possibility of touring the Hall of Fame and even more so at the prospect of performing at this one-of-a-kind venue.
Students are often given chances to showcase their musical talent in school choirs and band, but it's not often they can perform as a solo artist or play in a rock band or sing pop music through a school outlet. This trip would provide just that opportunity.
