Bill Gates once said, "We're changing the world with technology." That is exactly what I want to facilitate for my Kindergarten students. Today's children will live, learn and grow up in a society that depends on technology. I want to expose them to the positives of technology.
I teach in culturally rich school.
Last year my classroom makeup represented 8 different countries and nationalities. My school serves an abundance of economically disadvantaged families. Our school serves a clientele of approximately 70% free and reduced price lunch. I am blessed enough to be the very first classroom teacher for many of my students. At this age, my students are hungry to learn about the world around them! They soak up any opportunity at technology exposure. Technology use has proven to provide a substantial increase in assessment growth.
My Project
I am requesting two iPad Minis. I will use these iPads to teach my students about the many educational apps available right at their fingertips. Students will be using these iPads to learning letters and sounds and to practice forming and writing letters. They will be making connections with reading comprehension, rhyming, and beginning and ending sounds as they explore the iPads. Mathematically, students will be exposed to apps that focus on counting, adding, patterns, and shapes. Students will build a stronger comprehension of the common core goals. This tool will help secure concepts taught in the classroom.
I am confident that iPad use will create a deeper understanding of skills taught.
I am also confident that, with your help, I will be able provide exposure to the fast-paced technological world we live in to my large population of economically challenged students. Many of the children your donation will serve come from families that will never be able to provide a tool like an iPad for their children.
