My school is full of diverse students of different socioeconomic status and is a part of a wonderful, supportive community. Our town greatly values the education of its children. My students are in the first grade, and they are always excited to learn!
These students love learning, and the love is even stronger when they have books to inspire and help them become better readers!
They are so engaged when it involves books on topics that interest them and that are on their reading level.
My Project
One area my students struggle in the most is being actively engaged in their reading. Having only a handful of books in our classroom library that are on each student's different reading level and are of interest to the students is tough. I am requesting various leveled reading sets to give my students new and exciting topics to explore. Using these books, the students will be able to read about topics that are interesting to them that they can also read independently or with a partner.
In my classroom, we read multiple times a day.
The addition of these texts to our leveled classroom library would give my students a expand their knowledge and to take their imagination to new places. Students who are confident in their reading ability will strive in all other subject areas. These books can help them to do that!
