My Students

I teach math to smart, energetic, and curious fourth grade students. I come to school every day wanting them to work to their full potential.

My students come from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. About half of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They are very active learners and love to be given the chance to show what they know. By providing flexible seating options, such as standing desks, students will be given the option to move around and learn instead of sitting in desks.

My Project

We currently have various flexible seating options in our classroom, but I recently handed out a survey to find out how they felt about flexible seating. Some students commented that they would like to have standing desks.

By encouraging students to stand up in class and move around, it helps improve physical and mental health, and also breaks sedentary habits that could form as they get older.

By providing students the option of using a standing desk, they will be less distracted and will increase their concentration to what is being taught in class. Also, some students may feel tired or sluggish, but having an option to stand and walk around can help them focus more on what is being taught in class.
