This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
“Hard working, talented, and driven" are the words I would use to describe the students at my school. As a teacher in a culturally diverse Title-1 school, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, I would love to provide our students with creative and meaningful learning experiences through soccer.
Team sports bring together students from various backgrounds, which will provide them with valuable learning experiences.
Most of the students at my school don’t have access to a team sport because they lack the funds to participate in them. These same students work extremely hard in the classroom and don’t easily give up. They are respectful. They keep pushing on even when faced with a challenge. Implementing this after-school soccer club will give the students at my school an opportunity they wouldn’t otherwise have and provide them with a release from the daily challenges of life.
My Project
Applause and cheering are the sounds I want to hear at my school. Soccer is an exciting team sport that requires both team work and coordination. Bringing soccer into our school will teach our students how to get along with people from many different cultures and with different personalities, which is a skill that will be needed far past their school days.
Adding a soccer club to our school will provide a venue for our students to learn, practice, and develop many critical skills while having fun.
Students will not only develop gross motor skills while playing soccer but they will also learn how to critically think during soccer practice and game as well as how to be a team player. This project is also designed to improve self-confidence, which in turn leads to higher academic growth in the classroom.
Donations to this project will support the implementation of bringing soccer into our school and getting the much-needed supplies to make this into a reality for our students.
It would be my hope to involve not just the parents but the community as well by watching their games to help foster a sense of belonging to the area in which they live.
