Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school come from low income households with more than 80% receiving free and reduced lunch. All of the students here are bused in from surrounding neighborhoods. This makes it hard for the students to have a sense of pride in our school.
Education is beautification of the inner world and outer world.
Kids want an environment that makes them feel comfortable, safe and happy. When kids like what they see, they want to be at school. The purpose of beautifying a campus and creating a community service committee is to use education to involve students in community service. This allows students to see and understand the importance of giving back in our school community as well as the outside community.
Our school was built in the 1940's and has been lacking in the 21st century feel for some time. This project will teach students to have pride in their school. It will allow them to understand what it takes to give back to the community and why that is important.
My Project
My students want to place educational quotes in the hallways, sports quotes in the gym and positive messages throughout our campus to improve the way every student feels about school. They want every student to feel valuable, loved and respected, ultimately their goal is to make every student feel welcomed and included with simple sayings.
My students are eager to perform random acts of kindness as a part of our campus beautification and community service class.
My students need the tools to carry out a list of projects that will benefit others. With our Cricut machine we will be improving our hallways, bathrooms and common areas with permanent vinyl cutouts with motivational and educational sayings. This project will allow my students to be a part of something greater and give back to their fellow students and teachers. We need a printer and paper to print motivational quotes, speakers for the teacher to show community service project videos and a speaker to carry outside of the classroom while the students carry out these projects. These projects will allow my students to step outside of their familiar environments and see what it's like to expand their horizons and truly do something that will benefit others.
My students have planned, implemented and successfully worked outside of the classroom to improve the appearance of our school cafeteria and cannot wait to start working on another project. These materials will allow them to start spreading joy around our school.
