Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fourth grade bilingual teacher in an inner city school in New Jersey. Since it is an urban school, materials are very hard to come by and the parents really can not afford to purchase materials. Some parents are afraid of letting their children out so they can't even go to the library at times.
Since we are in an urban area and with funds dwindling everyday, certain supplies are very scarce. We desperately need a way in which children can love reading and take books home in order to create that love for reading.
I want to establish a lending library in which the children can borrow books and create their own books as well. I want to start it off with simple books they like and slowly continue to add books. They will each have a book bag that they will place each book in the bag on a weekly basis and borrow the books. At the end of every unit the child can create a book that can then be bound and published.
You can make a difference in the life of a child by helping us instill the love of learning. You can make it possible to place a book in the hands of a needy child.
