My students are so excited to be in kindergarten this year! My students love coming to school each day to learn new things. For many of them, this is their very first time in a classroom setting. We have many students in our class that are second language learners and need lots of language and literacy exposure to develop their language and academic skills. My students are ready to learn and eager to absorb all the knowledge they can in our classroom this year.
My Project
Daily read alouds are so important in our kindergarten classroom. Each day my young students gather on the carpet to hear a story being read out loud to them. This is such an engaging and important daily experience for my students.
Reading out loud each and every day helps develop so many important skills in young students.
First, they get to develop a stronger vocabulary. Vocabulary development is so important for young children and helps them to build strong skills in communication. They also make connections between the written and spoken word. The students can see the printed word on the page and hear me read it shows them how spoken language connects to written text. Finally, participating in read alouds increases their attention spans and give them a safe space to explore emotions by hearing out how story characters deal with their feelings about situations and solve their problems.
