My students need new chapter books such as Shiloh and Tiger Rising to read in their book clubs. The Vocabulary Folder Games would be a great addition to our classroom centers!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a very diverse area of town. Many of my students are bused in from other areas and a majority of them receive free lunch. Most of my students are coming to me not prepared for 4th grade. They do not have the necessary materials at home such as books to read or even pencils and paper to write on.
In many cases, my students are one to two grade levels below where they should be.
This is the reason that differentiation is extremely important in today's schools. I am working with students on at least three different grade levels and am diligently working to pull them up to the 4th grade level. Because they are lacking necessary skills, I need materials that come in a wide range.
My Project
My students need new and exciting chapter books to read in their book clubs. We have a limited number of book sets and are in need of a few new books to make it to the end of the school year.
With books such as Tiger Rising and Shiloh, my students will be able to explore their complex and endearing characters, as well as their themes.
These are skills that all readers need to be able to interpret a text for meaning. The Vocabulary Folder Games are a tool to help each student learn new ways to identify unfamiliar words in context. The will have fun while learning very important skills that will help them become better readers.
