After that title, I hope you're not let down with what we need at our school. It will really help charge up our students! We're a low-income, inner city school. Our students do not always receive the chances that kids in the suburbs receive. It really makes us sad, as these students are just as bright and willing as their peers, but are written off by everyone. One thing we really found to increase morale is digital photography. After the initial purchase of decent digital cameras, we began to show students and teachers the amazing world they can capture. Right away, students began creating picture maps of the school, websites for our county, and pictures of high achievers in our school. We even created a group of 'Paparazzi' that takes pictures during school events. It makes me smile to see these students, so proud with their little badges on, receiving real-world experience. The students then download their images, print or publish them, and reflect on the authentic task they completed. However, this story may stop here. In purchasing these cameras, we put forth such an initial amount of capital, that the 'perks' like rechargeable batteries and larger memory cards were overlooked. Now, as some of the batteries are dying, we replace them piecemeal, as we can afford them, or as people generously donate them. What would truly continue to help us are some of these additional supplies. While it seems simple enough, it really will make a difference! Say Cheese!!!
