Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3 to 5 years old and have a variety of special needs. They come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and enter my classroom with a variety of experiences. They go to school on an elementary public school campus in Southern California.
My students are wonderful, sweet, and affectionate.
Each one is as unique as their special needs. My students deserve the best the world has to offer, and, with your help, I want to give it to them!
My Project
Research has shown that there are many benefits to playing daily games in the classroom. When planning lessons, I try to incorporate at least one game a day into one of the key learning areas as either a teaching and learning tool, assessment strategy or classroom motivator.
When playing games , students become more engaged in their learning, taught content is reinforced and class enthusiasm is increased.
Using games such as Acorn Soup, Bug in a Rug and Fruit Fiesta in a lesson, as part of teaching and learning, helps to develop enthusiasm around the lesson, motivating students with their participation and creating a positive attitude towards learning.
Games such as Where is the Bear and My First Match can also create a positive memory and experience of learning for students in the classroom. Playing games in the classroom increases overall motivation. By playing games, students become more motivated to learn, pay attention and participate in set tasks. Games help students to become a part of a team as well as take responsibility for their own learning. They can also be a great classroom management tool, helping to motivate a class.
