This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are the friendly frogs. Why are we so friendly? We pride ourselves on four core values: perseverance, integrity, responsibility, and respect. Every morning my class hops into our day by greeting each other in a crew circle. We have discussions about empathy through read alouds, and demonstrate team work through challenges such as a skip counting line up game.
My third graders are hard workers who have thoughtful learning discussions.
Our school is a charter school located in the city of Buffalo. We provide an engaging and interactive learning environment. Creativity is encouraged through an arts based curriculum and after school clubs. Students repeat these words often: "I am kind".
We have a strong community. My students help each other by working together during partner tasks, providing feedback to a writing buddy, participating in fluency building activities like reader's theatre, and cheering each other on at school-wide community meetings.
My students sure do live up to their name as being the "friendly frogs".
My Project
The Friendly Frogs have the opportunity to have recess each day, either outside or in the classroom. With this being my first year as a third grade teacher, my recess game choices are limited. Most of the games we currently have are broken, or worn out because I purchased them at a donation store. Wouldn't it be great if they could have the opportunity to play with brand new, fun, and educational toys?
I am looking for both outside and inside games, like puzzles, play doh, and legos that will spark my students' creativity.
I also chose games that will support our curriculum, such as an interactive globe and puzzle of our Earth. During our expedition block, we studied children in other countries that do not have access to books, which has tied into learning about continents and oceans. These games will make those lessons come alive!
My students can learn to respect each other through cooperative play, be responsible by taking care of our brand new items, and persevere by using their imagination.
