This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My school is a Title I school that sits in the heart of Washington, DC. I have a group of 67 students who are fun loving, eager-to-learn new things, excited about school and love to read. My classroom would be considered a melting pot of cultural heritage and social needs. Many of my students have been in the U.S. less than 4 years. They inspire me every day.

To meet their needs, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!

My Project

We are requesting rugs for our classroom to use during our story time, calendar, and whole group lessons. My students need cozy carpets to invite them to learn. We spend most of our day on the floor and my students would love to have a comfy space of their own while they take on the learning challenges of fifth grade.

Having these classroom rugs will allow my students to stay focused on their learning instead of worrying about where and what they are sitting on.

Minimizing distractions and increasing their focus is optimal for helping fifth graders to learn and grow.
