Our class is comprised of a classroom teacher and an intervention specialist with third grade lower socio-economic students. Our students are ones who are at risk, as well as students who have been identified with learning and behavioral disabilities.
Our students have "much energy" !
They are a vibrant group who have various styles of learning, various abilities and various challenges. They are a great group of unique students who have many needs that must be met during their school day. Their skill levels are varied, as is their ability to cope with the stresses of being a third grade student. Our students struggle at times with being "comfortable" in our learning environment. This is typical with students with academic and physical challenges as they need the option to be able to be work in a manner that allows their physical and sensory needs to be met. Our school consists of grades 1-3 and we are in the process of building a new school directly behind us! So exciting for us, but also adds a new challenge with the noises and adjustments we have to make during the day.
My Project
I can just picture it now! Students in our class with needs for different seating will be able to choose from different cushions and ball chairs to accommodate them. Students with needs for deep pressure to soothe their sensory needs will be able to choose from weighted objects, sensory balls, seat bands, ball chairs and wiggle seat cushions to aid them in their learning.
Our hope is that our students will feel more comfortable in their environment thus producing more focus on their given tasks.
The goal for us is that we are using every possible resource to ensure that our students physical needs are met and that each student is successful.
