My students need a magnetic dry erase board to practice writing.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Do you remember getting to "go to the board" to show off what you knew? My kindergarteners are getting their first taste of the school experience and love having the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their learning.
I teach in a Title I school and most of my children receive free or reduced price lunch.
Many of my children live in single parent families or with a grandparent. Some have other siblings at home. They all live in families that are very supportive of their academic success but may not have the financial means to provide the support needed. In the past few years our state has declared pro-ration on our education budget which has severely limited the money available for purchasing materials and equipment. In addition, my classroom is located in a building that is over 25 years old. We have the necessities (heat, air, lights) but no money for extras. I've tried to make my classroom an inviting place but I don't have the money for a full size magnetic dry erase board.
A large magnetic dry erase board will give me and my students a space to engage in interactive writing activities; use magnetic letters to practice word building; use magnetic math manipulatives to practice number representation, patterning, graphing, and addition & subtraction. I will also be able to use magnetic pocket charts to display sentence strips and word cards to practice sentence building and story sequencing.
Despite the financial roadblocks facing public education today we must do whatever we can to ensure we have the materials and equipment that will help our students learn.
With your generous donation and support you will help me provide the best environment for learning.
