My students are in need of books they enjoy reading. We need a selection of 43 books related to sports, books written by authors students love, biographies, and books that relate to our social studies curriculum.

I teach two 6th grade ELA and Social Studies classes. This is my first year teaching in a middle school after teaching 1st grade, so my supplies are limited. Our school library houses books for students 3K-8th grade, so books students enjoy and have not already read are often limited. Most of my students come from low-income families and they do not have many books at home.

Since our school is rather large and our library is rather small my students really try and utilize our classroom library, unfortunately, it is lacking books. We are not only lacking in the number of books we have but also in the content of the books. In order to get my students to enjoy reading I must have something for them to read that is enjoyable.

I need my students to be able to read things that interest them, especially the boys. My students love reading books about sports. The girls really enjoy reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. They also have several favorite authors like Wendelin Van Draanen, Mike Lupica, and Roland Smith. Having books that my students will enjoy reading will enable them to enjoy the reading process. With these books they will not be able to say, "I don't have anything good to read."

Please help me make this interesting classroom library a possibility for my students. These books will last for many years and reach many students. Help my students to realize how important reading is and give them the desire to READ!
